‘Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.’ Philippians 4:8
Our minds are a battlefield. Keeping our thoughts on lovely things can be challenging. There are so many things in this world that can lead us to be filled with evil, bitterness, greed, lust, envy, pride, anger, discontentment, worry, and fear (just to name a few). So how do we stand firm in the battle? When pondering this question a childhood song came to mind. “O be careful little eyes what you see. O be careful little ears what you hear. O be careful little tongue what you say. O be careful little hands what you do. O be careful little feet where you go. O be careful little mind what you think.” Wow, I think maybe we should reteach this in adult Sunday School. 🙂 So maybe, if we just strive to fill our hearts and minds with God’s word we will stay in control of our minds? Filling ourselves with God’s word is essential but this action alone will not win the war. To take control of our minds we must turn over control to the “Father looking down in love.” Only then, with the Spirit leading us will our thoughts be set on lovely things. If there is a battle raging in your mind today that seeks to destroy your joy and peace, I encourage you to seek God in prayer , He wants to bring you victory. Memorizing scripture related to your personal struggle is a great way to keep your mind on Him throughout the day.

‘For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons; of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,’ 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
Dear God, we are aware of how important our mind is in our daily walk with you. It can be so hard to drown out the voices, images, and chaos within in order to hear you clearly. Please take complete control of our minds today. Chase out all of the ugliness and fill us with pure and lovely thoughts. Take captive any fear, worry, and doubt. Set us free to be held and fully loved by You. Amen
