It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High: To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night, on an instrument of ten strings, on the lute, and on the harp, with harmonious sound. For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work: I will triumph in the works of Your hands. O Lord, how great are Your works! Psalm 92: 1-5a NKJV

When I sit in the presence of the Lord, oftentimes I find myself at a loss for words. Some say there aren’t enough words to properly say thank You or praise His name. I find this to be true, but even more so, there aren’t even words that truly embody the type of praise He is due! In these moments, I find myself being drawn to His Word. As I begin to read Words breathed by God Himself to His chosen people, my heart is filled with praise. Then the Holy Spirit takes over, and I no longer need words as my soul praises Him from within. As I bask in the Glory of God’s Goodness, He is magnified in a way only He can invoke.

With the season of Thanksgiving and Christmas upon us, let us take time to worship He Who has given us all that we celebrate. Creating a list or a post of all that we are thankful for is a worthy gesture, but let’s not miss the opportunity to spend time on what God truly desires as a gift of gratitude: communion with Him in a personal way. I encourage you to sit in His presence every day, allowing the Holy Spirit to draw you close. I can assure you that this will create an attitude of gratitude in our hearts that we could never develop on our own.

Allowing the Holy Spirit to drive our praise will open our eyes to the blessings of our Loving Savior that are not found in physical forms. His sacrifice, forgiveness, mercy, grace, love, peace, joy, and rest fill the longings of our hearts in a way that people, materials, and successes never will. So yes, let’s thank God for the people, materials, and successes that make life beautiful while always looking to the Cross where our true joy is fulfilled.
